From Guernsey to Chongqing- Q&A with Mike Villanueva
Mike is from Guernsey, Channel Islands and is currently living in Chongqing. He graduated from the University of South Wales with a Bachelor of Science in Renewable Energy Systems. He has been teaching at OWEN for almost a year. Find out why Mike likes living in Chongqing.
What is your favorite part about being a teacher at Owen?
My favorite part of working for Owen is the excellent team I work with; they've been an amazing source of support and friendship.
How was your transition to life in Chongqing?
Once I'd moved into my apartment it was very easy to get used to the lifestyle, I live close to work in a nice area which makes life very convenient.
What is something that has surprised you about living in Chongqing?
The affordable cost of living compared to other tier 1 cities has made it so easy to save my money!
What advice would you give to those who are contemplating teaching in China?
Flexibility and an open mind are key. It can take some time to adjust to how things are organized here but you'll do better in the long run if you can embrace the differences.
What is your favorite food in China?
My favorite food has to be Dongbei food, I love the sweet and sour fish!
What is something you do for fun in Chongqing?
I like to spend my time hanging out with friends at a local Turkish restaurant, the best way to start a night out.
